Had a poke around this today - multiplayer servers seem down right now, but otherwise SUPER polished and very smart.
It's like a maximalist version of Elden Ring. So many new mechanics (including PSO-style timed attacks), a duck button, a slide move, a system of unlockable class perks, alchemy, etc

There was a big Elden Ring mod release today - Reforged 2.0, one of those big remix type mods with reworked environments, new bosses, etc.

Seconding this. The OG X-Com has seen an ENORMOUS modding renaissance in the past few years thanks to the OpenXCom engine. The best way to play it vanilla, as it fixes a ton of bugs and improves the UI.
Some of the biggest mods dwarf the original game by a factor of ten times the content or more.
