While redistricting dominates headlines, school board elections are quietly shaping America’s future.

Last Wednesday, over thirty neighbors attended an LGBTQ listening session in Apple Valley, discussing local challenges and resources for the LGBTQ community. Prism leaders aim to expand these conversations state-wide, organizing support for LGBTQ people in various Minnesota regions.

On Monday, Prism members and allies celebrated Trans Day of Visibility at the Minnesota State Capitol, emphasizing the importance of protecting trans freedoms. The event featured community leaders and drag performers, highlighting LGBTQ joy and affirmation. Though visibility matters, true liberation requires ongoing dedication to support and protect the LGBTQ community.

Rev. Dr. Justin Sabia-Tanis testifies against a bill affecting transgender inmates before the MN House Public Safety Committee, highlighting the extreme violence that trans people face in prison. He emphasizes the moral obligation to protect marginalized groups, arguing that this bill would exacerbate their suffering and violate ethical standards. He urges lawmakers to vote against it.

Tristan Pautsch presents his opposition to House File 435, emphasizing the unique challenges transgender individuals face in prison. He shares personal experiences highlighting the importance of safety, respect, and dignity in correctional settings. He argues that a compassionate approach enhances rehabilitation and urges committee members to reject the bill because it endangers trans inmates.

Rather than addressing harms against trans youth, this legislation adds to the bullying that many such youth face on a daily basis, doubling down on the lie that there is something wrong with those who practice integrity by living according to their God-given gender identity.

Community organizing is a lifelong craft. Current Prism efforts focus on base-building by connecting with LGBTQ residents and our allies in Minnesota, engaging in outreach, education, and advocacy.
