Since watching Evangelion at 18, I opened the door to the ephemeral beauty of bishōnen 美少年 with Nagisa Kaworu. I’ve found their characterisations fascinating and often bittersweet. The most recent to catch my attention is Elan Ceres 4号 as portrayed by Hanae Natsuki in the newest Gundam (水星の魔女)

I’ve been interested in and pursuing queer theory/culture since university. It’s taken over 20 years since then to turn that lens on myself and realise why it has always called out to me. I’m queer. I’m so grateful that it’s a discussion that’s available now, even if the climate isn’t always kind
