Barkeep on the Borderlands is in its 2nd printing! It is now perfect bound with a spine and has much more consistent colors in the interior.

However, I think Barkeep really is a bit more of what Nova calls Category 2–it just doesn’t come up often because fights aren’t really assumed as much. But it’s definitely there, it just is pretty unobtrusive and doesn’t call attention to itself.

Fun fact about the ennies: you film your acceptance video (if you arent there in person) ahead of time, before knowing if you win. So there is a chance I am cleaning slime out of my ears for a video no one will see.

Very cool post! One thing I will mention is that cover is actually way more powerful in Boot Hill! So powerful it doesn’t make it in the chart (see snip from my blogpost). Basically obscured is firing from behind a bush or in shadows or smoke, etc. But I still think what you did makes sense!

There is a scene in Parasite (2019) where the family is folding cardboard pizza boxes in their dining room and that’s basically how folding the mailers for Prismatic Wisdom orders with my wife feels like

Online writing is fragile, susceptible to all manner of linkrot and enshittification. It’s so much nicer to have something on your shelf, in your hands, at your gaming table, where you can flip to a page and say “ah, here it is!”

Although ostensibly about board games (and it makes a good argument that board games are a medium uniquely suited to exploring real-world systems), every game designer (TTRPG and OSR folks included) would benefit from reading this book
