Crazy Raccoon Lady
@princesssnarkles.bsky.social
Hair of a mermaid, mouth of a sailor.

Western PA farm girl transplanted to Chicago. Yes, I’m a cliche. No, I’m not even sorry.
There you go posting your L’s again

Real talk, my friend Bridget had no idea what she was doing when I introduced them and she looked him square in the eye and said, “I’m gonna bully you”
September 21, 2023 at 4:50 AM
Why would I do that when the truth is so much more fun?

I know you’re all just here for the baby raccoon pictures. Gimme an hour to do a tutoring session and I’ll deliver.

But here. Have some cuteness to tide you over.

All of these bbs are healthy nursing mothers and their offspring (with the possible exception of this lone chonkmonster from last summer. Look at him. He’s magnificent.). While we’ve never seen a seriously ill raccoon that hadn’t been poisoned by our neighbor, we are fully vaxxed for rabies

To reiterate, DO NOT FUCK WITH WILDLIFE. If they want to approach us, like this little food bandit here, that’s fine, but we do not touch them or get in their space.

The sweetest and hungriest one this year has figured out the food is stored and breaks into the greenhouse through the doggie door if it’s not closed. They all have distinct looks and personalities. It takes me an hour and a half to feed the horses at night because I’m taking so many pics and videos

So after a couple of summers of this, we came to the conclusion that it would lead to far less chaos and heartbreak if we just fed the raccoons enough to keep them at home.

And y’all. It is so much fun. The same ones come out every night. Once they’re big enough, the babies come too.

Shoutout to Centre Wildlife Care. They are doing the lord’s work.

—the literal life sucked out of her. ANYWAY) The mothers who leave our farm run the risk of being shot, poisoned, or hit by cars. Then they leave behind babies that, IF they survive, have to be rescued + taken to a rehabber, the nearest of which that reliably has space is 3 hrs away in State College

—of old-school farmers who consider any animal not of use to them vermin, so they’ll kill any raccoons that venture onto their property.
A lot of those raccoons are nursing mothers (it’s a damn dirty lie that one out during the day must be sick. More likely she’s a mama who’s hungry af from having—
