Out just as the sun was coming up, in the rain. Great running weather, other than the mud so things were a bit slippery in places. Erf.Wow, it felt good to run again. Ankle twinged a little but stopped. Yes, (1/2)

I had thought to use something grand like, "the road back to a full marathon." But no. We don't go back. We go forward.

It was good to get out there again. Bit muddy but nothing bad. I also had to nearly jog to get my heart rate up enough. Bit over 2 miles.

Six months ago, I fell very badly while training for the San Francisco Marathon, which was supposed to be my banner race this year. Suffering a grade 2 sprain, I was out of action for nearly two months, missing not only that race but putting me far behind where my fitness

One year and four days ago, I was in Athens, running my first marathon ever. It would be easy to say how the mighty have fallen but that implies giving up.I'm not. Tomorrow is my first race after the fall. Will I break my PR? Probably not. (1/3)

I've shown pictures of this before but this may be a slightly better one. Meet another old friend on the trail: my milestone. This boulder stands within a few feet of exactly one mile from where I start each morning. I touch it both ways every run, (1/3)

I'd like to introduce you to an old friend of mine. This stop sign. It stands almost exactly 1.25 miles away from home on the trail I use every day. It faces so I see it heading back home.First reaching this far felt incredible two years ago. Then, (1/4)

End of the week, so more ugly wolf selfie. Ok, here's the deal. This week has been savagely hard. Last big push before the taper before next weekend's 10K. Although that's a sideshow. The real training for next year's full marathons--and the sprint tri in the spring, (1/4)

No pretty picture today. You get pushing wolf. Today was brutally hard. Possible, but by no means easy. Five miles of race prep, with a middle two at race pace and a two level cool down that took everything to maintain. My HR was very high, climbing to 167. (1/2)

Things can vary dramatically from one workout to another. Earlier this week, I was barely able to hold a pace under a ten minute mile, sometimes falling below that.

Today, I could hold a flat eight easily. Three miles, with some fast intervals.

Ok, so today wasn't the hardest thing I've ever done but that doesn't really mess up the formula. It was still a lot as various parts warmed up and shook out. Good to be back at it and I finally slept better. Happy Monday, everyone. Welcome to November.

Four miles.

We all struggle at times to find a reason to get out of bed. To keep going. I certainly know that as well. But over these past 2 years, I've noticed something rather amazing. We've all also had really good days. Days where we pulled off something truly incredible. (1/6)

You know what's spooky, what's really scary? Giving up. The worst demons are always the ones that live in our heads. That whisper, "you're not strong enough, just stop." Bastards were loud today. (1/4)

My camera is too good. It was actually really dark. Spooky black wolf out in the early hours, stalking your local bike path. Although I'm really not scary, given that I'm clumsy and mostly want pettings.

3.5 miles, with some brutal 3 minute intervals.

Lovely sunrise today from three miles in when I was turning around. Today should have been much harder. Seven miles is a lot for a weekday run and while it was all easy pace, aside from the strides at the end, (1/2)

Today was hard. I've done three miles a ton of times but I'm still getting used to full time training again so I hurt a ton, even after a rest day.But you know the motto around here. It's impossible, do it anyway. So I went. (1/2)

Essentially, this week is starting the build back up from the second half of this year. My injury, a bunch of things pulling me away from training, and other factors came close to ending my running but that ends now.Seven miles, with three fast, (1/2)

Fartlek is a very silly Swedish word that means speed play. Effectively, it's HIIT. Today's was hard but possible.I could hold around 7:30 min/mile for 2 minutes, 5 times. This is good but also bad. If I can hold that in my current state, (1/2)

I am finally home. I ran on my home trail. I do not know why this week has been so good. I know my fitness has suffered greatly after all the interruptions, after my fall. But I feel like this is another run up to Athens. I feel so incredibly strong. (1/2)
October 23, 2025 at 4:20 PM
I felt very strong this morning. I'm very happy that I can do even these longer weekday runs with no issues. Six miles, with strides.

Finally, back at it again. A new state today. I honestly have lost count of how many this is. I knew I could still run but it's gratifying that I actually could do it this morning with no issues. Four miles. Just something small, (1/2)

This photo was taken today by my wonderful fox boyfriend, Velonte. His photos are amazing. But what struck me, walking to this same spot out of suit a few moments ago, was the trail. It goes forever. I could totally run on this.Only, I cannot. (1/3)

Soggy day today. My decision to bring the rain hat was validated on the last mile in.

I don't feel great. I'm well off my paces after the forced time off and this is still peaking so it's hard.

But you know the motto here. Do it anyway. Five miles, two at tempo.
October 10, 2025 at 7:07 PM
After an unexpected week off due to the family medical emergency and subsequent death, I'm finally back at it. Today's run was a very hard interval one, with six periods of a flat 8 pace for 3 minutes each.I couldn't hold it. But I went hard for those intervals anyway. (1/2)
October 9, 2025 at 5:21 PM
Five miles easy with strides. Although, I'm bad at doing easy. I just let my legs figure it out for themselves and was honestly shocked to look down about a mile later and see I was running a flat nine pace. Yes, (1/2)

Three miles is easy but, after yesterday, it was still a lot. At least I got to see the beautiful sunrise. Pity the really good photo was blurry but that's the risk taking a photo on the run.
