“In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”
Judges ought to be more learned than witty, more reverent than plausible, and more advised than confident. Above all things, integrity is their portion and proper virtue. Francis Bacon

Which team are you on Team Taco or Team Ketamine? Polvoron or the Piattos queen? BBM deports Sara’s dad to the Hague and Sara faces an impeachment. Similarly, Trump trolls call for Elon to be deported and Elon asks for Trump’s impeachment. Don’t ya love it when Philippine and US history rhymes 🤡

Butch Abad’s advice on bullet voting might have been right. By just voting Bam/Kiko (or plus H and L), we did not dilute our votes by adding to their competitors. What a difference 3 years make! Duterte in The Hague; Bam, Kiko, Leila and Chel in the House!

A Pope from the religious orders elected by diocesan Cardinals. He may need to bridge yet another two worlds; updating Catholic social doctrine for the AI revolution just like Leo XIII did for the Industrial Revolution.

Augustinians have the gift of community. He recently wrote in X: JD Vance is wrong, Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love 4 others

To those who feel lost and apprehensive now that Pope Francis is gone, Jesuit Superior General Arturo Sosa, S.J., reminded people that the next pope is not the “successor of Pope Francis,” but the “successor of St. Peter.”#conclave

Developing consensus on Pope’s legacy: A+ on being a symbolic, spiritual and pastoral leader. C- as a church reformer.
His influence is less on daring decisions but more on effective process of consensual decision making. Hope it’s true he left instructions to proceed on female diaconate.

Pope Francis and Zelensky preach the same 🐣 message.
Francis: “We are to reflect Easter in our lives and become messengers of hope, even as many winds of death still buffet us” Zelensky: “Evil may have its hour, but God will have His day…sooner or later, evil will retreat, and life will triumph.”

ICC Judge: Mr. Dutert
Pres. Duterte: my name is Rodolfo Roa DutertE!
ICC Judge: ok Mr. Dutert

Also Duterte as Mayor, ““I was angry she was raped, … but she was so beautiful, the mayor should have been first!”

Nothing better than watching the all female ICC judge panel mispronounce his name.

39 years apart, same feeling of relief and elation.
In 1986, Pres Marcos was removed from office and flown to US exile. Last night Pres Duterte was flown to The Hague to face charges of crimes against humanity. 3 women judges signed his arrest warrant, Happy Women’s Month!

Suggestions: when’s the revolution starting? Most effective civil disobedience? WSDD- what should the Democrats do?
Lot’s of good ideas here…

It is not enough to remember
The tyranny of the Martial Law years. But we must also recognize and resist. Recognize efforts at the restoration of a kleptocracy. Resist the entrenchment of Political dynasties. Elections are venues for people power. Let’s make this election count.

Philippine elections are won by coalitions. Today, neither the rightist kleptocrats (Marcos and Duterte) nor the left leaning anti political dynasty groups (Leni faction and the leftists) want to campaign together. Hope the former still split and latter willing to collaborate for Presidential run.

Another deja vu moment. In 1945, Manila was the 2nd most destroyed city next to Warsaw. As a colony of the US, they promised to help us rebuild. Part of their assistance was clearing the debris of the city. Payment for war damages was made contingent on accepting US controlled free trade.

Numbers were small at yesterday’s rally against the most corrupt national budget ever passed. In the fight of liberal institutionalists vs political dynasties, every chip against the law and democratic norms has to be fought. Hopefully this stream turns into a river and then a raging sea of protest

Filipinos are familiar with Pres. McKinley. His Manifest Destiny proclamation annexed the Philippines, just as we were fighting our Spanish colonizers to a draw. His reason? To Christianize a nation that had been Catholic for over 300 years. Two year war with America followed with many lives lost.

As someone else said: the Philippines doesn’t have a government it’s just a bunch of family businesses (CTTO). “Almost 80% of Congress and well over 50% of all elected local government officials are from political families.” Data from 2004-2016, it might be even worse now.

President Carter’s final year was a master stroke in political timing. He lived long enough to cast a final ballot for the Democratic candidate. He died just in time to prick the conscience of the incoming corrupt Republican president with eulogies extolling his honesty, decency and compassion.

Jimmy Carter set the precedent for Presidents releasing their tax returns. A precedent now so important to inform us of a candidates values and conduct. With the Middle East in flames his Israel-Egypt accords are testament to what is possible with sincere personal diplomacy, as this story shows.
