Back tracked to see this one closer, uh isn’t that a Mervyn Peake drawing on the cover? It sure is.
It lost its price slip while sitting on the ephemera table, so the volunteer just charged me one dollar

Now here’s some legit socialist SF

I’ve hardly ever read a more discouraging introduction than the one here by John A. Williams, who had extensive experience butting heads with Schuyler.
He begrudgingly admires the wit and some technological foresight of these stories while labeling him a fascist

If you’re wondering the same thing, well, no one reads these anymore because Schuyler later renounced his socialism, joined the John Birch society, endorsed Goldwater, became a rabid red-baiter, etc etc.
Sure seems like a familiar path today

That all sounds so up my alley I couldn’t believe I’d never heard of this writer. It is very definitely fascinating, it sure seems like he should be well known, even if the work itself was just a historical curiosity

There were six books of the Maybonne, Marlys and Freddie stories in this format. They were mostly serialized as Ernie Pook’s Comeek Show first.
The Greatest of Marlys! is more like a Best Of from this era
