it may be my most “unskew the polls” crank opinion but i feel like the topic of patriotism is so inescapably propagandized that asking ppl if they’re proud to be an american is like asking them if puppies are good and that deep down in places ppl won’t admit to themselves, they know america is bad

it may poll well but it doesn’t necessarily follow that waving us flags at protests makes any meaningful difference. people are generally aware that the left is less jingoistic than the right, and authenticity (for better or worse) matters more imho

dunno bout that. bush-era iraq war protests largely adopted this attitude but it took years & thousands of casualties for public opinion to swing their way. by contrast in june 2020 non-flagwaving protesters burned down police stations and people loved it
