Open-access revenue triples: 6 companies saw revenues from author fees surge over 5 years. The growth is driven by two factors: The number of open-access articles published is increasing, and authors are also choosing to publish in more expensive journals.

Most prolific authors at the top of the pyramid with +40 papers/year are usually heads of large institutes with many subgroups and PhD students, while the bottom s populated by PhD students and Postdocs with less than 5 publications per year. #Preprint 🚨

🚨 One in 5 #Biomedical articles may contain faked data, with Chinese paper mills leading way (56% of the total). The real proportion is currently estimated at 20% or around 300,000 articles per year (only across #Biomedicine)! ☣️
