I have held sobbing mothers in my arms, inconsolate after losing everything.

I have heard the wails of children & men whose agony cannot be described.

I have felt helpless as a witness to suffering that is not only allowed but ENCOURAGED by the petty Herods of today & those who remain indifferent.

There are so many reasons why people become refugees.

- Some flee war
- Some flee ethnic or religious persecution
- Some flee oppressive regimes
- Some flee poverty & conflict
- Some flee tragedy

Some become refugees because life at the margins, demonized & forsaken, is unbearable.

We know the story of the Holy Family.

We can look back & see that Herod was evil, those who helped the Holy Family were good, and that the victory to be had from that exodus would be triumphant.

We celebrate what it represents and what it has brought into the world.

...But the story continues.
