In Old English, the passive voice could be formed in two ways:

A. 'hit is ġebrōht'
= it is brought

B. 'hit wierþ ġebrōht'
= lit. it becomes brought,
with 'weorþan' (to become)

Sister languages such as German still use B:
'es wird gebracht'

'Weorþan' became 'to worth', but now it's all but gone:
