Y’all are hung up on salaries. Even if the CEO gets 20 million, the rest of the profits from selling insulin at $600 per vial when it costs like $3 to manufacture doesn’t go to just the CEO. It is distributed amongst shareholders. Corporate greed costs us more than the 200k doctors make.

You're right. Total compensation for all doctors in the US is around 0.5 trillion dollars, compared to about 6 trillion for the healthcare system in total. If all doctors were paid half what they are now, insurance premiums shrink less than 4%.

Even if we decided to pay doctors nothing, we would still have a massive healthcare cost problem, yet people on this app seem to think otherwise. What a masterful red herring I can only imagine was manufactured by Big Pharma and other greedy MBA’s.

Fuck it. Here are the numbers. The cost of healthcare spending in America is about 4.9 trillion a year. There are a little over 1 million doctors in the U.S. Let’s assume none are residents and all are being paid 200,000/yr. That’s around 200 million dollars. It is not a huge factor. At all.
Doctor pay is a huge part of why healthcare in America is so costly. Where exactly do you think the money is going?

There is nothing demeaning about administrative work. And you’re being disingenuous. This isn’t about not filling out correct paperwork, I’m talking about health insurance companies blatantly denying doctors orders. And how these companies also hinder doctors getting you the appropriate care.
Yeah, I get why doctors and their defenders have this attitude, but it's wrong and it fucks over patients all the time. The doctor should take ownership of getting you appropriate care, which includes filling out the fucking paperwork and doing it correctly. Sure maybe it's beneath them but too bad.
A doctors job is to provide care, not argue with a health insurance rep about why their patient needs a certain medication or procedure. This unnecessary administrative task also adds to the burn out that is rife among healthcare workers. I’m begging yall to read!

Okay this is worth breaking out into a separate conversation: basically no. What's being confused here is the cost impact to the patient and the cost of healthcare. Coverage, by itself does not change the the cost of a service. It just changes who pays it.
But they do deny medications that patients need, reject covering necessary procedures, etc. Is the conversation not about the cost of healthcare? This is 99% the fault of health insurance CEOs. I brought up the 24hr shifts to illustrate that doctors are also victims of a predatory health system.

Doctor pay is age-weighted, their lifetime earnings are in fact fine and make up for the shitty start. That's not my judgement, that's the judgement of all of the doctors who do it.
