I love Brisingamen, owl service, etc. But Red Shift stayed with me longer than any other piece of fiction I read as a, slightly melancholic, teenager. Levels of emotional complexity and depth that most other fantasy writers could only dream of.

I'm very much not suggesting anyone actually read it. Although I did watch a 4 hour video essay by someone who did.

I think that's the position most of us find ourselves in, mate. The reason the Renewal guy was getting grief is that he doesn't give a shit about any of that. He wants an ideological purity he can spar with from the right.
