It's not just common sense; it is environmentally responsible. It's bad enough that everything we buy has built-in obsolescence, forcing us to replace items every 1 to 5 years. Even houses are not built to last. The result of 100 years of planned obsolescence.

I finally tried audiobooks, listening while commuting, walking, cleaning, cooking... Audiobooks gave me time for books again. I found that I was retaining as much (or more), and that it was easier to remember the author's name & the title of the book, something I sometimes struggled with.

I started listening to audiobooks when my son was little. My mom and mother-in-law were both aging & requiring a lot of care. I had a full-time job. I read to my son for at least an hour/day, but when I tried to read a book (usually nonfiction), I was asleep in 2 or 3 sentences. Starved for books,

I'm in publishing, so I need to know the stats. :)

While some get more from books, that's not true for everyone. I went from being a snob to an ardent fan of audiobooks because they seem to work for my brain. My hubby, also a big reader, narrates, but doesn't listen.
