I just found an old autograph book that I’ve had since the early #1970s when I was a young boy. No #autographs inside, but some great #vintage #stickers.

I am exhibiting #watercolour and #ink #paintings at the moment. Twelve #artworks in all. They’re only modest things but I’m proud of them and excited to be showing them in public.

I’ve not posted any new #art recently because I’ve had a few #watercolour #paintings on the go but not quite completed them. This week I’ve managed to bring a couple to an end state. #Tree tangles near #Easdale #Tarn from my own #photograph.

A life drawing class is such a great & joyous thing to be part of. Everybody should try it (as model or sketcher). Here's one of mine from a recent-ish class.

Here’s an #artwork where I tried something a little different. It started as a full #ink #drawing but when that was completed I added #watercolour.

Here’s a #painting I completed (and sold, yay!) last year. #watercolour - springtime view of the #woodlands around #Brantwood by #Coniston in the #English #Lakedistrict - from my own photo. Hope it reminds you that warmer, brighter, greener days are just around the corner.

So far this is untitled. I like to think it’s a rural wintry scene from somewhere… full disclosure… it was based on a photograph that I saw in the other place sometime ago on an account called Threemileswide. Anyway, I hope you like it. #art #painting

Having posted a lot of wintry images over the last six weeks or so I thought I’d share something a bit more summery. #watercolour and #ink a #painting of a courtyard in the #medieval old town of #Granada southern #Spain

Here’s another #snow scene #watercolour I did a while back. Again it reminds me a lot of the #cheshire countryside not too far from me. Hope you like it!

We don’t often get #snow where I live but it’s fallen each of last four days so here’s a #watercolour #painting I did some while back that is a good reflection of the kind of #landscape around here. Hope you like it!

Day no.30. Alphonse Mucha who struggled as an artist until he produced a poster for a Sarah Bernhardt theatre production. In 1896 he created a series of 4 posters called The Seasons. So successful, in 1897 he made a second more colourful series. So that one has been chosen instead.

Pic.no.29. Not overly December-ish but Edmund Dulac created this for The Snow Queen, the scene where Gerda's carriage is held up. It's the depths of winter, no leaves on the tree skeletons & there's a general 'freezing fog' vibe. Dulac places us right in with the crew watching the oncoming horses.

Picture no.28 the artist is Ruth Eastman, a very popular between 1910 and 1930 & you can see why: elegant lines, bold colours & a glint in the eye of the young woman. Apologies for the spoiled image (water damage?) I've searched for better without success. But it's too good to leave out.

December picture no.27. We only have murky fog here at the moment, no snow, but this lovely print by contemporary north-west England based artist M.Heath makes snowier weather much more appealing.

Day no.26 - St.Stephen's or Boxing Day but in many Celtic areas (mainly Ireland) Wren Day. A singing wren supposedly gave away St.Stephen's hiding place, leading to his arrest & death. A tradition arose of hunting a wren, killing it & parading it in a small coffin in revenge for the saint's death.

3 for 1 today in the December pics. There are surprisingly few decent illustrations of the actual Christmas Nativity. So instead we have a cover from Harpers Magazine, a mind-boggling painting by Pieter Brueghel the Elder "The Census At Bethlehem" & another Carl Larsson painting.

Day 24. It can't really be anything else but Arthur Rackham's creations. He made this for an edition of Clement Moore's 'A Visit From St.Nicholas' (or Twas The Night Before Christmas) first published in the 1830s. Rackham's edition is from 1931. So here we are.... Father Christmas is on his way...
