Going down the middle with your original message just makes you sound lame and ineffectual, and people dont want to give that the time of day. A lot of people don't want to take the bait and have a conversation. Just give them the info, stand on your soap box, and go.

Give them a push in the right direction or some shit. "Cool, you're vegetarian. Now, you should really aim for veganism to further reduce the harm on animals. Here's some recourses blah blah blah"

Or just be confrontational "you should really go vegan instead because you are still doing harm..."
June 11, 2025 at 4:08 PM
Cool, just wanted to clear that up.

Either way. I think if you are going to do this with people, the tongue in cheek method isn't going to net you many positives. Just say it plainly or don't. The round about approach is just going to make people dig their heels in and refuse to listen.
June 11, 2025 at 4:08 PM
First off, just want to check that you are not equating the suffering of people of color with whether or not someone eats an egg.

I get you are making a comparison between the two, but I really hope you are not placing them on the same level of importance here.
June 11, 2025 at 3:28 PM
But I think you need a more tactful approach. The source you sent even references peoples unwillingness to be criticized on this very issue and how it stems from perceived moral grandstanding. Your tone comes across as holier than thou, and it will turn most people away from listening.
June 11, 2025 at 3:16 PM
Correct.

However, like i said, the tongue and cheek "information" without any real information is a poor approach. Most people aren't going to have a good faith conversation with you when you approach it like that.

They aren't going to want to learn or change when they feel talked down to.

Yes, yes. You are the hero of our generation posting on BlueSky.

Nothing is stopping me. I just don't use the word vegan for myself.

Things like soaps, dyes, plastic bags, tampons, and even energy production are often made from animal products, and unless someone is fully abstaining from every facet of animal labor and suffering, they're not vegan.
June 11, 2025 at 2:59 PM
Shit, I agree with you, and I avoid animal products, but even I think the snap replies with a holier than thou tone are annoying. Maybe preach to people who haven't already cut out animal products rather than people who have if you want to grand stand about it. You are preaching to the choir.

Let me rephrase.

You and I can scream it from the roof tops. But it will not change the minds of randoms online.

If you want to change minds, move on from the "wait until you hear about..." shit. As if it is some insider knowledge.

People who eat meat, eggs, dairy, etc. know. They do not care.
June 11, 2025 at 2:46 PM
And searching vegetarian on here to reply with the same copy paste info is just lame. Get a job.

Nobody you are "informing" is ignorant to the horrific nature of the egg, meat, or dairy industries. You are doing nothing but making vegans easy targets for the same tired jokes from the last 20 years.
June 11, 2025 at 2:34 PM
My friend, nobody cares that you and I don't eat certain animal products.

Have more of a personality than what you do or don't consume. Being vegan or vegetarian doesn't make you or I special.
