I'm not sure exactly what I expected an asteroid impact would look like, but "giant psychedelic space spiderweb" definitely was not it.
All those science fiction movies, and none of them managed to capture the real strangeness of a collision with an asteroid.

I don't count decker as crazy like Tracy or the one captain of other ship who went ego crazy on roman world. Decker was one of best driven by guilt & possibly illness injuries.

Uh lot of tos didn't have a fundamental social message. And starship captain goes mad shows up several times within tos. The character interaction was spot on. In a way we got something we never got to see in tos. Why did kirk accept promotion when it clearly turns out to be a mistake.

They're also valuable because the players you use those picks on, including busts and guys who end up on IR, are cost-controlled. Your first round pick being injured is probably something you can work around. A player with Sauce Gardner's contract getting injured can be catastrophic.
