LOL.

I spent a large part of October watching 1980s and 1990s erotic thrillers on Tubi.

That's what the streamer is for:)

Poodle were definitely a star attraction in the first half of the 20th century. They were the dog of choice for a number of stars.

Here's Pauline Starke with her dogs..

I was underwhelmed by OBAA.

I watched many better films this year: Hamnet, Blue Moon, Train Dreams, SunFish, Mastermind, Sorry, Babe . . .

Bernie Sanders (silent generation) and AOC (millennial) are united by their advocacy for the working class, and McKibben's Third Act, an environmentalist group largely comprised of retirees, argues for alliances with Zoomers and Alphas.

More to the point, though, we should all be thinking about political allies across generational demarcations: my silent generation mother was a radical, even by many of today's standards, as am I (the tail end of the baby boom).

(intersectionality); Judith Butler (gender as more than a binary); Bill McKibben (the danger of global warming) -- are boomers, and key figures issuing critiques of late-stage capitalism --Thomas Piketty, Stephanie Kelton -- are Gen X.

It takes awhile for new ideas to take hold.

the architects of these political movements were often/typically older: MLK was born in 1929; Gloria Steinem, 1934; Edward Abbey, 1927; Maya Angelou, 1928; Tom Hayden, 1939.

Similarly, the thinkers who originated key concepts that animate many of today's political activists -- Kimberlé Crenshaw

Of course generations are somewhat imprecise--grouped by era and characteristics; for Baby Boomers, one characteristic was the young age at marriage and a desire for conformity/safety/consumerism.

It's true that boomers protested the Viet Nam war and were involved in the civil rights movement, but

It's the generation between the Greatest Generation (who were mostly old enough to fight in WWII--1901-1927) and Boomers (those born in the post WWII boom). The era spans 1928-1944, while the Baby boom is typically described as 1945-1964. Typically a generation is around 20 years, more or less.

quiet a few second wave feminists were silent generation folk: Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Audre Lorde, Bella Abzug, Maya Angelou, Mary Daly, Kate Millett, Gloria E. Anzaldúa, Angela Davis, my own mum . . .

Oh, thank you for the reminder.

I think I saw Frears' film at the Brattle in Cambridge, but my 20s were hazy.

We have an enormous and private back yard, and one of my guy friends likes to end an evening visit with a piss way back in the yard. Our two dogs wait eagerly for this end-of-night ritual

Apparently, peering with a favorite human is like Christmas..

you got your graham cracker crust. How wonderful.

I had white licorice ice cream, which is seasonal here, so I have it 1-2 times a year between Thanksgiving and Xmas.

pudding sounds lovely, too, though.

I learned about a new (to me) bird today.

Thanks for the beautiful art.

I had a St. Poodle who was very gentle with her stuffed animals--they lasted years--except for chewing out/off their eyes almost immediately.

Still not sure of her reasons.

The murder rate for whites in South Africa is actually quite low. See the AI summary below (which is confirmed in other places).

I don't know if you remember, in the ascendency of the internet, a mantra was "it's revenge of the nerds!" a celebratory reference to the 1984 film.

I thought the analogy was, well, problematic given that one of the film's heroes is essentially a rapist.

Perhaps, though, the comparison is apt.

The blouse is amazing, too.
