Another day, another recall of Anker powerbanks due to being bombs. They aren't even offering replacements for these, just a refund or gift card.

You know, because we're all so excited to buy more powerbanks from them after the last recall just a couple months ago.
Anker Power Banks Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazards; Manufactured by Anker Innovations
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power banks and visit Anker’s Recall Page at https://www.anker.com/rc2506 to verify the product serial number and register for the recall. Consumer...

Oh hey, Bookmarks/Saved Posts are a thing now. Guess I can stop being quite so stingy with likes since that's what I'd been using for that purpose.

Don't expect me to like every post I vaguely agree with, tho, I'm still old school message board brained where metrics just didn't really exist.

Bluesky moderation sucks, but at least the website is functional and the users are mostly sane. My limited experience with Mastodon was awful because it combines the worst aspects of using bulletin boards with the annoying UI of social media, run by the people who moderate Linux help forums, 1/

A reminder that there's an ongoing movement to switch the BlueSky side of the federation bridge from opt-in to opt-out.

Strongly recommend you preemptively block the @ap.brid.gy account if you don't want a bunch of bitter Linux nerds to mass scrape your posts while refusing to reciprocate.
Switch Bluesky to opt out? · Issue #1471 · snarfed/bridgy-fed
Not actually planned yet, but lots of people regularly request it, so I want a place to capture some of the discussion and ideas. Norms on Bluesky are different from the fediverse in this regard. A...

Social media kinda sucks when your natural usage patterns as a high-passive browsing, low-engagement seldom poster makes you functionally indistinguishable from a shit-stirring bot account.

Welcome, latest surge, to BlueSky, where if you don't want everyone to mass block you on assumption of being a spam bot, you must pass a Voight-Kampff test of having a name, non-obviously AI-genned profile picture and banner, and at least a dozen non-reskeet skeets that effectively deanonymize you.

As much as we enjoy tearing apart the chatbot bubble, VR is also a dead end technology as long as it's considered a more expensive, bulkier, clunkier, and less feature rich experience compared to just using your carrier-subsidized smartphone to take pictures, browse social media, and play Balatro.

It's hilarious our big idea to solve the issue of identity verification... is to recreate Extended Validation certificates, with all the fundamental issues that caused them to be phased out in the first place, but do it for people instead.
How Everything We're Told About Website Identity Assurance is Wrong
I have a vehement dislike for misleading advertising. We see it every day; weight loss pills, make money fast schemes and if you travel in the same circles I do, claims that extended validation (EV) c...

Trying to come up with posts to fill out the minimum socially-accepted "I am not a bot" threshold is like that girl in Office Space throwing together her minimum fifteen pieces of flair for work.
