After tariffs dramatically raise the cost of basic goods, acting as a regressive, compounding sales tax that disproportionately harms those in the lowest income bracket... What happens when Republicans gut Medicaid, which covers half of adults in poverty? 72M people in total.

We can't do broad tariffs without first investing billions into implementing expansive domestic manufacturing policy so we can produce our own version of these goods domestically. Our supply lines would first need YEARS to correct/onshore! All this does is raise prices!!!

The world may be on fire but at least we’re witnessing a new female popular music renaissance: the Chappell Roan and SZA albums were perfect. Doechii is brilliant. No more mumblecore minimalism, the girls are back to belting and camp. Lady Gaga had her best album in a decade!!

✨Self care and politics✨

The first few weeks of the Trump admin have been AWFUL.

Trump and his reckless actions have hurt a lot of people. We have to stay engaged. BUT FIRST, we have to take care of ourselves.

Here are 3 small things I’m doing to take care of myself in this crazy time (a 🧵):

Senator Slotkin’s advice on how to save our Democracy:

1. Don’t tune out.
2. Hold your elected officials accountable.
3. Organize - organize around an issue and take action.

The #1 question I have gotten is “what can I do?”

I think the number one thing we can do is build community so that we are ready to take action, together.

Read more about how you can fight back by building community:
How Breakfast at Midnight can help the Democratic Party.
Yes, you read that right. Midnight Breakfasts can help the Democratic Party build power by building community. Read about my experience with Midnight Breakfasts below!

Do you know why Donald Trump is attacking education?

Because he knows knowledge is power, and if people understand what he is doing, they will turn against him.

“We use our power. We organize, mobilize. We educate, and we advocate.” - Kamala Harris

Her speech at the NAACP Image Awards was not only a source of hope in these dark times but also a call to action.

We cannot back away from this fight. Now is the time for us to take action.

A free press matters.

Just because you don’t like what they are writing doesn’t mean you kick them out of the Oval Office.

Information is power, and Trump knows that.

That’s why he’s spent years spreading lies about the media. To make it so, people do not trust their factual reporting.

What issues are on your mind?

To balance our budget, we need a reformed tax code…

Cutting programs that millions of Americans rely on should not be the solution.

Will a government run by billionaires represent everyday Americans???

Major tax provisions are up for debate this year. Trump’s last tax bill added 1-2 trillion to our deficit.

My guess— they will give tax breaks to billionaires which will jeopardize essential programs (i.e. social security).
