For the last few months I've had the pleasure of collaborating with Mercury Studios on a new series. They let me plunder their archives to tell the stories of some overlooked or forgotten concert films from the 1970s. You can check out the first episode now!

A little late for the 50th Anniversary, but still a timeless video I hope. As a Canadian with family history on Lake Superior, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" has always held a special place in my heart. Really excited to get a chance to talk about it on the channel.

What do you think the best music biopic is?

There's such a disparity in process between writing & editing. It's easy to feel progress when editing - you can sit down for 8 hrs & make the video happen in real time. Meanwhile, writing is abstract - slowly gathering thoughts and running ideas through the back of your mind at all hours of the day

The most inspiring story in music is from 1984, when an R&B singer named Ray Parker Jr. got a call out of the blue saying, "We need a song that sounds EXACTLY like 'I Want a New Drug' by Huey Lewis, but it has to be about ghost cops arresting ghosts" and he sent them a finished track 48 hours later

Here's your periodical reminder that I wrote a book last year. It's pretty neat and if you like what I do with my channel, I think you'd dig it a lot.

Pre-dates modern music, but one that I've been considering exploring in a video Music Hall. Reigned supreme over British culture for half a century and then completely and utterly collapsed once American music crossed the pond in the 20th century. Mostly remembered now through McCartney's tributes
Is disco the first musical genre with a documented fall? I can think of plenty afterwards but none from before that

My good friend and fellow music creator @boundo.bsky.social recently had to take down and re-upload a fantastic video for copyright reasons. If you could give some love and go learn about Björk, it would go a long way to helping a great indie creator.

Pop fans seem to have really taken to the term "recession pop" to describe the Katy/Gaga/Kesha/BEP era of pop and I don't like it. The connection between '09 pop music and the recession feels tenuous to me
