I don't think Musk knows this is embarrassing. Mark Davis knows it's weird to have That Haircut and eat every day at PF Chang's and doesn't care. Musk deeply, DEEPLY cares, and we see this every time he crashes out after someone posts a tweet that criticizes him

There have been a few times that the dogs have attempted to hide behind me after my wife did some kind of unpleasant procedure (ears, teeth, meds, inspecting a wound) and I usually say "Oh, NOW you're trying to be affectionate to the Barely Tolerated House Consort"

I actually grew up in the Boston area, but my parents both grew up in NorCal, so Chico State remained the punchline school

I get involved when there's an ear infection - he'll lie on the infected ear and present the good ear. When it comes time to roll him over, he does the Dead Labrador Rigor Mortis Maneuver. While my wife can move all 85 pounds of Dudley if she has to, she prefers to have me do it

I try not to judge people who commit it.
I judge extremely harshly the communities that glamorize it and basically egg people on by presenting it as a Valid option for people who are Pure and cannot cope with our Fallen World.
