I am very lucky to have the mentorship of Andrew Davis, Massimo Cristofanilli, Aditya Bardia, William Gradishar, and Cynthia Ma, among others. They have supported me every step of the way and I am forever grateful to them and all the incredible people who worked on this project with me.

What do we do now that we have identified this disparity in targeted treatment use? We will evaluate the potential root causes and design interventions to address this gap. In the era of precision oncology, we must ensure patients equitably receive the recommended ctDNA-guided treatments. (5/5)

Despite treatment advances, we also found that Black patients with metastatic breast cancer continue to have shorter survival compared to White patients, measured from time of ctDNA. This reflects the persistent and striking nationwide racial outcomes disparity in breast cancer. (4/5)

We found that Black patients with metastatic breast cancer were significantly less likely to receive PI3K inhibitors - the medications that can be given to patients with PIK3CA variants - than White patients (5.9% vs 28.8%). This disparity was despite the same % of PIK3CA mutations. (3/5)

We found racial differences in variant frequency - higher rates of GATA3 and CCND2 variants in Black patients with MBC - by ctDNA which were validated in a large real-world cohort. But no differences in the targetable mutation PIK3CA, so we studied treatment equity next. (2/5)

I love this thread! Hi 👋 I'm Emily, finishing heme/onc fellowship and an MPHS in July. I'm interested in health disparities in breast cancer, social justice, public health, and improving treatment equity using implementation science.
