Or set up WET systems which don’t need concrete(though sometimes are clay lined) and will clean the water through filtration. www.biologicdesign.co.uk/wet-systems

There are loads of people using cargo bikes to transport stuff around Frome. If you want I can put you in touch with someone who can give you the low down on who's using what and who's making it.

Great work and I don’t think we are talking at cross purposes. I’m interested in the why and how to change things too. I’d hope the films that I make go some way to promoting woodland creation and helping open up understanding and discussions across the different types of woodland creation.

System change requires systems to change, and often new grants are put in the hands of people that don’t understand them. No matter that people higher up believe and support them and have created them. Usually it requires an intervention and a change in processes, and sometimes staff.

…He was encouraged to take up the original grant and was actually pictured on the cover of the website promoting it with his little girl as a baby. She’d turned school age before he’d gotten the permission through.

I’d be surprised if they aren’t looking at ways to change that and not make it too complicated to administer. Most treeplanting is done for biodiversity (in England) so it would make sense.

Oh, interested to hear what @richardkbroughton.bsky.social has to say. Is there something you can share?
April 29, 2025 at 11:06 AM
Yes, that might be some of what is actually happening. It’s still very new and one hand isn’t talking to the other. People making decisions about something they don’t understand. That is one of the challenge that Ed Green who took 4/5 years to get his application through had, but not the only one.

This might answer this question a little. My next film is partly based at High Wood on Ancient Woodland Restoration. Before we totally fall out! youtu.be/V7WqkS1Ea-c?...

I have spoken with the FC and sat in conferences where they were asked these questions. It’s good to see the work they are doing mapping areas where any woodland creation will be fast tracked because of low conflicting land use and taking on more people to process applications -the main bottleneck.

Nat Regen works in some places not in others as deer density is much higher now. Hence the need for tree guards and deer fencing. People are waiting to see others try. See Ed Green at 14.08 here who spent years getting his grant for a mix of regen and planting: youtu.be/Qxpwxda-6K8?...
