Last night we hosted a preview screening of the film Free for All: The Public Library my library. The film explores the history public libraries from their beginnings in America and doesn't shy away from some dark times in our field's past. It premiers on @pbs.org on April 29. I highly recommend it!

This will have deep impacts in Washington and every state. But it shouldn't be hard to understand why such an agency is a threat to the white jocks and tech bros in the federal government. Grant funding includes:
Entire staff at federal agency that funds libraries and museums put on leave
The staff of the Institute of Museum and Library Services was placed on administrative leave Monday morning, following a meeting between IMLS leadership and DOGE staff.

It seems like the Democrats have stumbled upon a "new" message: the administration is made up of incompetent, law-breaking, white jock/nerd assholes. Yes- of course that is true- it has always been true (poster boys and girls of whiteness; cue Hegseth on a Hawaiian tarmac).
That msg misses the pt.

Mahmoud Khalil is a legal, permanent U.S. resident and is granted protection under the First Amendment.

He is currently being detained without being charged with a crime.

The reason for his arrest was due to his political speech.

This is a violation of the First Amendment.
