…has left us with monopolies in most major categories, meaning we’re not left with much choice but to suck it up and pay. The illusion that “competition will give us the fairest prices” is a fallacy when the competition doesn’t exist and massive corporations buy up any and all competitors. 4/

When an economic crisis gets us used to paying high prices, plus we’re pretty dependent on certain things (gas, food), ultimately these companies can charge high prices & rake in record profits knowing we’ll pay because we have to, most especially because a “free market” (unfettered capitalism)… 3/

It’s exhausting seeing people whine about gas and eggs as if POTUS just calls up these companies and dictates prices, or if the market determines everything. Things like supply & demand have big impacts on the cost of goods, but the bottom line is companies will charge as much as people will pay. 2/
