22nd-Century
Aerodynamics
🛩️✈️⛵🚁🌪️

In the 1760s, burning was well-understood as a DESTRUCTIVE, or extractive, process; that belief leads directly to the 'discovery' of Phlogiston.

And in your time, Quantum Mechanics seems plausible

- because the 'wave-object duality' of everyday items (such as a TENNIS BALL...) is not recognized...

It's really just a revival of the Turing Test; if the machine makes you think it's human, then it's performing the same function as a human.

The concept fails, both by reducing 'human interaction' to a kind of game-theory reassurance

- AND by defining 'intelligence' as the ability to DECEIVE...

I noticed that, but still wanted to get the pun in...

But is Aerodynamics ready to hear it...?

I've had very similar encounters in Academia

- where things might not be expected to operate in the same way they do in the commercial world of publishing.

Yet in both worlds, a requirement to 'go with the flow' is rigidly enforced, even as institutions gleefully claim to be 'groundbreaking'...

Unfortunately, it's a familiar story, with a grim arc; the 'swivel-eyed loons' of David Cameron's Tory Party went on to 'win' a Brexit and several UK Premierships

-and to dictate the present Tory tone of a supposedly Labour government...!

Is this Kirsty's bid to lead the country...?

Co-operating spiders

- that could be a problem...

Again, is there a possibility that the text in question doesn't exist...?

In the early 20th Century, 'primitivism' escaped into the Art world and has lived there as a changeling ever since. In the interim, Culture may have forgotten its protegé ever belonged to Philosophy...

Science is under attack from the political Right because it's 'progressive'

- constantly seeking a BETTER understanding of the world around us.

That position THREATENS 'conservatives' who regard established beliefs and institutions as MORE IMPORTANT than observable reality.

These have no tail rotor; the booms that broke off support rudders to provide stability, & steering, when travelling forward at speed.

IMO, the impact that broke them off may have been 'camouflaged' by the aircraft bouncing from its rear wheels to the front, rudder loss being detected much later.

Yes, it's a consequence of Flow Theory.

Airplanes are viewed as 'particles' flowing through Airport & Airspace conduits; passengers are also treated as 'flowing' particles.

In reality, each passenger DISPLACES, to some extent, any resource they interact with

- just one 'overlimit' can SINK it...
November 8, 2025 at 11:17 AM
Your metaphor neatly DEBUNKS 'flow theory'.

A port city doesn't experience the 'ebb' or 'flow' of its tidal river; what's recorded is the HEIGHT to which the water's surface is DISPLACED by each advancing and retreating tide. And overspill can cause disruption that lasts for weeks, not hours...

Aerodynamics isn't the ONLY subject where the phenomenon of DISPLACEMENT is dismissed in favour of a 'preferred paradigm' focusing on FLOW.

But its assumed position among the Sciences (when it's really a SUPERSTITION...)
means that Aero SETS A REALLY BAD EXAMPLE for other disciplines...
November 7, 2025 at 10:24 AM
The CAUSE, tho

- is Aerodynamics.

The false premise of Airflow Theory reflects a MINDSET which prefers to solve 'flow problems' EVEN where the problem is one of DISPLACEMENT. 'Rebooking', as you clearly describe, is a displacement problem impeding airline operations WRONGLY VIEWED as 'flow'.
November 7, 2025 at 10:13 AM
In Aerodynamics, that's definitely and demonstrably the case...

500 years ago, the idea of planets following ornate 'epicyclic' paths, past a stationary Planet Earth, made perfect sense

- but big-brain Scientists were the only people who could properly understand the process.

Quantum Mechanics serves the same purpose today...

Downforce isn't always 'more welcomed'; they also like to feel it DISAPPEAR..,
November 5, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Sorry, I may have been unclear.

It's the INVISIBLE air activity BETWEEN the (more easily detected...) vortices that's doing most of the Aerodynamic 'work' in pressing a race-car DOWN, and holding an aircraft UP.

Focusing on those 'invisible lifters' can indeed eliminate a great deal of fuel use...
November 2, 2025 at 3:15 PM
It's true that the vortices are real; it's also true that they represent a SMALL FRACTION of the air activity around a racecar.

As in Aviation, Formula 1's future lies in Electric propulsion

- and the Dynamics of invisible 'air masses' to be found in the SPACES BETWEEN visible vortex events..
November 2, 2025 at 2:05 AM
Yes; racecars generate downforce, AND they generate vortices.

But the vortices ATTRACT ATTENTION

- often DIVERTING it from the other Aerodynamic processes, including those from which the downforce arises, that are happening elsewhere around the car at the same time.
