This is ludicrous. The Government of Alberta is requiring 30% up front security for renewable energy projects, meanwhile Alberta holds less than 1% of the $260 BILLION needed to cleanup oil and gas disturbance across the province. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art... #ABLeg #ABPoli #CDNPoli

Here's a map showing orphan sites across Alberta. The problem is MASSIVE & only getting worse as more companies go under. The AER says there's another $2.37 BILLION worth of liabilities held by companies in "high financial distress." Industry needs to pay what they owe for cleanup. #ABLeg #ABPoli

OP-ED: Irony is one of Alberta’s most sustainable products. A current example is provided by the Weyerhaeuser Company, an American timber giant, which is proposing to clear-cut log the remaining core forested winter range of two Alberta caribou herds.

@youralberta.bsky.social knows this plan will drive the Redrock-Prairie Creek and Narraway caribou herds to extinction. Their own data shows it. Our report brakes down how this plan fails to protect caribou.

This week, AB held the 1st public session re:draft Upper Smoky SRP. This plan was supposed to protect caribou. But, we heard from staff that the goal is economic development with NO INTEREST in what happens to caribou.
This government will be responsible for the extirpation of 2 caribou herds in AB
Two at-risk caribou herds could be lost forever under the Alberta government's new draft subregional plan for the Upper Smoky area. If approved, a U.S.-based company will be allowed to log their winter ranges, which could lead to their extinction. 🌍 Read our joint release:

Caribou herds will be destroyed under Alberta government draft plan, say conservation groups
According to these groups, the draft plan allows Weyerhaeuser to clearcut the remaining critical winter habitat and eliminate the ability of these caribou to annually migrate to the foothill’s forests.

Cleanup costs for conventional oil & gas "liabilities" in AB may exceed $100 billion. Our schools, hospitals & other public services are consistently underfunded, yet the govt plans to use taxpayer money to let companies off the hook for cleanup. This is corporate welfare. #ABLeg #ABPoli #CDNPoli

Please, please, pleaseeee do not eat meat from #CWD positive deer 😞
Just saw a TikTok from a guy with a hunting channel who has 250,000 followers encouraging viewers to eat meat from deer that have tested positive for chronic wasting disease and I dunno maybe social media was a mistake.

Help us tell the AB government that we do not want “harvest preserves” in the province!
One of our biggest concerns is the spread of #ChronicWastingDisease, a fatal disease in cervids 🦌 , everywhere in the province!

Send your letter 👇
Yelling at the internet won't necessarily equate to change. Know what could? Writing to government. If you oppose "harvest preserves" where farmed deer will be fenced off to "hunt" (posing a serious risk of spreading Chronic Wasting Disease) write a letter:

#Conservation easements are a great success story for Alberta — they've permanently conserved ~400,000 acres of ecologically-valuable land. But lately, the idea of them seems to cause anxiety.
