Only real downside with turning of Google's smart features is that you lose the focused inbox, so you either get notifications for every new email or you have to turn of notifications entirely. My work around is forwarding important e-mails to Proton.

Living several miles from a hydrant myself, I can attest that it can be factored in. But I also live in a 19th century wooden farmhouse in an area that could be susceptible to wildfires during droughts as well.
