What's going on at Heritage (and the expanding blast radius from Roberts' original disasterclass) has been...surprisingly under-covered on this website. I think some influential people on the right are finally beginning to realize who Vance is (shockingly, they didn't before)

Right, but this isn't a puppy mill, it's the US Senate. A lot of the interns on the Hill are there through college fellowships where they don't even get to choose which member they work for, but are young people interested in working on policy and this is the only way for them to break into that

It's been wildly confusing that we're built to counter and then we just...don't when we win the ball and have acres of space (with the exception of some players, like Xavi and Sarr).

I think some folks On Here are being a little bit cavalier about how long the Dems could have held out with 40M Americans starving (though obviously this ALSO is bad because people will lose their HC). The problem is that the GOP doesn't care about either group because they hate public assistance

The BlueSky conversation that appears to be happening is "we want them to touch the stove on SNAP/fed workers" vs "we want them to touch it on healthcare," which is kind of a circular firing squad. I have exchange HC so I don't like the deal either, but 40 million Americans starving is huge too

I've been very confused by these arguments. If the thought is that "all legislation doesn't matter because trump won't abide by the law" then the only position you could have is "we can't reopen the government for 3 years, then." Like what would be the point of every negotiating about anything?

I thought this messaging threaded the needle pretty well (in essence, we want accountability for this BUT ALSO let's not make it sound like Dems are the ones who want to raise your premiums)
This is not a deal — it's an empty promise.
Trump and his Republican Congress are making healthcare more expensive for the middle class and ending it for working families.
Time for Democrats to stand tall for affordable healthcare. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

I definitely understand why everyone is twitchy (especially folks who haven't been getting a paycheck for multiple pay periods now), but I'm still not understanding the political calculus that would net them 10 votes.

Substantially worse, which is why I find it very hard to believe.

This is why I've been surprised at some of the names that people have been proposing (as speculation). At least two of the names I've seen bandied about have at least thought about running for POTUS and doing this would...make that difficult.

To be clear, has Mills actually said this? All I'm seeing from her is her blaming the shutdown on Trump and the GOP, and then her guarantee SNAP benefits for Mainers (but I could be missing a story or quote).

Craziest example of this for me has been Sicario, which I did not think was subtle in its message or critique, and yet has somehow been fetishized by half the Trump administration (and whose own sequel didn’t seem to understand what Villaneuve was saying in the first one!)
