Plenty of people wish it was closer to the novel. I get that, but I absolutely think all the changes made for a better Spielberg movie. Cronenberg would have been the guy for a more faithful adaptation.

I’ve always liked Crystal Skull. How are the nuke escape and aliens any less silly than the heart-yoinking, a maze of traps protecting the grail, and the Ark’s powers? It’s all pulpy adventure stuff and that’s why we love it!

How does this even happen? Like, nobody in the massive chain of command (editors, VFX people, negative cutters, the director, test screenings, etc.) for a movie of this size noticed the obvious error?

I don’t see that on the schedule of Disney’s upcoming stuff (the OOT announcement moved the 50th date from April to February also).

Also, the true anniversary is May 25 (day of wide release). That my “ackshually” moment today.

The whole ‘04 DVD set is very nostalgic for me, especially Empire of Dreams and all of the effort put into the bonus features. Good set, but lackluster transfers.

I wish the SE versions will receive the same care that the OOT is having with the new restoration. Maybe one day?

It’s not like the ‘04 master was much better. Stereo channels were accidentally flipped, color space was rendered wrong, and a whole half-reel got scanned out of focus in ROTJ. The DVD transfers felt lacking and very “early DVD age,” designed more for CRT than the later flat screens.

Disney slapped a bland color grade on the OT (from the guy who did Mando S1) and kept the noise reduction done for the 3D masters, which produced artifacting.

I mean, I prefer the originals, but the SE should remain the definitive version. So much done for them was an improvement.

My real desire is to see the SE presented with the same care as this restoration. No copious DNR, a more vibrant color grade, etc.

Dan’s video on Doug Walker’s The Wall is particularly useful for explaining bad rhetorical techniques and how a critic can so thoroughly miss the point of a work to fit their predetermined interpretation (Doug mining The Wall for sloppy comedy, PCD trying to call the PT sexist).

At least Bullshit didn’t do a whole transphobia arc?

Like, there are good drama essays on YouTube. The hbomberguy and Todd’s takedown of Somerton, TRO eviscerating Austin Jones, and Dan Olson’s NC/AVGN videos. These are the exception in a sea of turds.

Dramatube and its tropes do not build skills for good media criticism.

He seems to be a dramatuber who wandered into the media criticism realm. I found out about him in the QRT’s of some Doug Walker reminiscences, talking about some gross jokes Doug did. Dramatubers are generally terrible at formulating points and conveying them through editing.
