Without the #safetynet I could not have pursued an #education and lifted myself and kids out of #poverty ASAP. I hope others in need can get that same help. Read about how I got there, the stark conditions I faced, help I received, grueling challenges-- and my eventual triumph.

Elated to read of this. No one in the U.S. should be wo. food. When I was in deep #poverty decades ago, I woulda felt like some kinda unfit mother if my kids said, "Momma I'm hungry," and I had nothing to offer them. #SNAP makes a difference. #foodinsecurity

Watched this multiple times. It put a bright- start-of-the-day kind of smile on my face, seeing veterans treated with the civility, dignity, and respect they deserve. Their smiles and Pres. Obama's heartfelt gestures set me on my grateful way! #veteransday #HappyVeteransDay

I heard some old friends at Pod Save America were in town, so I decided to stop by. As we saw this week, we can change this country for the better. But it’s going to take all of us getting organized and having honest conversations about the best way forward.

It's another good day! Totally happy to hear that everyday people in need of food are going to get the #nutritionalassistance that #SNAP provides! Sorry for what you've had to endure. May this benefit remain intact. Heck, let's strengthen and preserve it! #anappleadayisnotenough

Complete chaos unnecessarily created by the FELON Administration and GOP.
A solution was available SINCE SEPTEMBER with emergency fundings the FELON refused to approve, Exact same as military pay he DID approve. GOP KNEW THIS and remained silent to this option pretending it did not exist.

🏡 Every day I think about how many Americans could be celebrating finally being able to buy their very own first home under Kamala Harris' proposed plan to provide access to 1st-time buyers' down payments. Instead, more citizens are facing #homelessness, #foreclosures and un- #affordablehousing.

I speak from experience. It's impossible to attempt to achieve one's potential wo. first having the safety & security that only results from having a place to call home. More #affordablehousing is needed and less luxury units. Plus, #livingwages. #housingisahumanneed

Some are mad because people are on SNAP and not working.

I’m mad because people are on SNAP even though they are working.

My lived #poverty experience w. 2 children decades ago taught me how crucial #SNAP is to addressing #foodinsecurity. When you have kids the pot is never big enough!

The real danger of censorship isn’t just the books we lose today, but the stories that will never be written tomorrow.

When fear silences creativity, we all lose, especially young readers searching for connection, comfort, and truth. Let’s make sure every story still has a chance to be told.

Always glad to hear of progress towards making #affordablehousing happen. Housing comes 1st to achieve one's potential. The move from sub-standard to decent housing stabilized my and my kids situation, enabling me to climb out of #poverty by way of #education.

Absolutely! Always focus on what your "ask" is before you engage, however you do it. And as for personal story? It put a fact, name, and maybe even emotion to it. For almost a decade my story of #livedexperience continues as proof of anti-poverty programs' effectiveness. #safetynet #ADayattheFare
Writing and Calling Congress is important. When writing, try to add a personal story that relates, like health care issues, child care, safety of our country, etc. keep it civil, even if the senator/rep is, well, a [insert appropriate term here]. When calling keep it simple - one or two things. 🧵👇

I’ve been unhoused and struggled with housing instability throughout most of my life. Right now, I’m watching my neighbors only home (an RV, a vehicle, a tent) be destroyed for the sake of “cleaning up” the city. There’s no dignity in this, in forcing ppl into temporary shelters. Housing 1st works!
I've got some extra copies of There Is No Place for Us, and I'd love to give away 5 signed books.

Just repost, like, or comment to signal your interest. I'll pick names at random on Friday.

Totally optional: feel free to share how the struggle for stable housing shows up in your life or community.
