This is a major failure of our government. Data extraction should never have been allowed without the explicit permission of the site user. No loss of site privileges if permission is declined. Putting the genie back in the bottle will now prove difficult....but it should be done.

Corporations and shareholders benefit while their workers that generate the profits sweep up the crumbs. Worker gains have fallen way behind productivity gains for decades. This needs to be reversed.

The profits from state-run oil company, Equinor, have helped build Norway's sovereign wealth fund which is currently valued at US$2.0 trill. The fund's governance allows the government access to 3% of the fund annually. Currently, that amounts to US$60 bill. We don't have to be the stupid country.

Profits accruing to state-run companies must be invested in a sovereign wealth fund for future generations to also benefit from. Many countries are doing this very successfully. Norway stands out as an example we could copy here in Canada/BC. 🧵 @anjaliappadurai.bsky.social

In addition, this country and province need to seriously consider creating state-run corporations for extracting non-renewable resources. We must stop engaging private companies in this field and sending profits outside the country. 🧵

Tkx for this great summary on a very disappointing federal budget. As you stated, the opportunity to generate increased revenue through a wealth tax, tax code reform and corporate windfall tax was completely missed. I would add to this the introduction of an inheritance tax should be considered. 🧵

Bottom line: YOU SHOULD BE WORRIED. Our government is not doing its job on AI or social media. It has completely caved to Big Tech.
