I am a little late on this one - but Moderna published their phase 3 trial of a combined influenza/covid mRNA vaccine in adults age 50+.
Great immunogenicity. Mild, short-term side effects (muscle aches, fatigue, etc).

Every time the question of COVID school closures comes up I am forced to remind the world that 21,000 people were dying of COVID a week in January of 2022 and that the FDA didn't approve the vaccine for kids 5-11 until October 29th, 2021.

Another insane story. The US has confiscated this family’s baby and put her into foster care, basically because the parents have tattoos — and deported the mom to Venezuela and trafficked the dad into prison in El Salvador. They have no known criminal record

My personal "5 years since the start of Covid" moment is remembering that in 2020, the US discovered it had allowed almost all its mask and PPE manufacturing to transfer to China for cost savings.
In 2025, PPE is still almost all made offshore, and we just encouraged China to end shipments to us.
