It's simply not acceptable for ignorant, deluded bad actors to have so much influence on so many people just because they are filthy rich. Society needs an immune response to protect itself from these cancers.

When I first moved to this country, it felt so much more tolerant than the USA. The normalisation of anti-trans hatred in mainstream UK culture over such a short time still feels like a shock. I am still so bewildered by it and the strange beliefs promoted to support it.

Speaking of falling for ideas, the notion that trans women are actually perverts trying to sneak into women's loos, and so hating trans is about protecting women, is possibly the single stupidest thing I have ever been asked to believe in the name of moral panic. I can't believe people believe it.

Update: The kinkster stuff has now settled into a bimodal distribution centred around either pup play or vorarephilia (I had to look up what to call that one) and has grown notably more raunchy (though without being graphic, fwiw). I like the idea of being exposed to unfamiliar views, but

What's galling, though, is how incredibly little it took to bring them on side. The pro-Russia talking points barely make a case; they don't even make sense within the worldview of Republicans who lived through the cold war.

It makes me furious to feel like my country's been made Putin's tool and I don't understand why more Americans don't seem to feel this way. It should be humiliating to anyone with a speck of real patriotism.

Nothing makes me feel more like the last decade has been one long bad acid trip than the fact that I have enough relevant background to understand how vaccines work and what the real vs. fake risks are, and meanwhile half the country is abandoning them over completely, demonstrably, imaginary harms.
