tech recruiting leader who thinks hiring sucks and wants to do something about it one post at a time
And, in fact, tokenism is an incredibly harmful thing for employee engagement.

If it makes you feel better, Tim Apple always contributes to the incoming president to curry favor. But there's something about him that precluded him from being seated at the high king's table during the inaugural dinner. Can't imagine what that might be.

I am very fortunate to have earned and my mother paid for 2 masters. My 1st job was at equifax in 1998, the hr director walked me out to my car, after my 4th interview. He peaked into my car, apologized for the various cans. HE said, all good, just making sure you didn’t have kids.

Yeah, but that's OK because it's just there to sow doubt and create "otherness" more than be some yardstick for hiring.

I'm really sorry.

This is in addition to existing rolling, WARN Act dodging monthly firings and "fat trimming" exercises like those recently announced by Facebook.

There is naturally a 1H hiring uptick starting late Jan/early Feb as budgets get approved, but I wager we will see earlier languid hiring states (mid March) and L4 role scarcity for downlevels.

Recruiters I know are fighting for roles to work and concerned about June layoffs already across tech.

They just want people who are different to be poor and way more tractable. They still need way more serfs for their gilded age antics before they even think about erasing marginalized people. We're just a convenient punching bag to get the rest of them in line.

And have made it easy to PIP/fire us later down the line with no legal blowback. 🙃

The other fun part is that due to the erraticism of the first term, large companies have slowed down top of the year hiring allotments longer than usual to see what insane shit is going to happen in Q1. It's like the hiring version of Jerry Springer.

If I have learned one thing about America, it's that forethought is not very common here.

We must also ensure that we aren't spreading misinformation. Trump thinks his EOs have more power than they do. This issue will be litigated to hell (as it should). It is not now legal to discriminate in hiring and promotions, so don't preemptively give him more power than he has by claiming it so.

Also, about half of all hires are considered "mishires" so it's not like hiring people in general is some well calibrated machine.
