Have you tried any of the General Hogbuffer sock patterns? My favorite is Stripe Tease.
I also used to knit a lot of the mystery sock patterns from Sock Knitters Anonymous group of Ravelry.

I'm also working on a pair of Monkey socks. I wanted a pattern that I could knit 2 at a time so settled on that pattern.

Good for you, maybe you can help my friend get her3 year old iphone to work correctly. Just recently it deleted her entire contact list and since her friend all use Android we can't help her figure it out and Apple support won't help. She struggles with it almost daily but can't afford a new phone.

I prefer top down, I don't like the cuff bind off, I would much rather graft the toe. It's also easier to get the foot to fit when knitting for someone else.

I taught myself to knit from a book in the 1970's and my first project was a sweater and the second a pair of socks. I didn't know it was supposed to be difficult, though my sweater was knit entirely tbl because I misread the diagrams and how to insert the needle. Wore it for decades anyway.

The current socks I'm working on are on 2.25mm ChiaoGoos and the needles are 5" long and the joins on the cables are very smooth. I've not had a single issue with that brand of circulars. I also have some Addis and Knitters Pride Karbonz and I always reach for the ChiaoGoo.

I found getting the right brand of circulars is the way to go for me. ChiaoGoo needles have very supple cables and are my absolute favorites. I love knitting my socks 2 at a time on one long cable needle. Definitely makes knitting sweaters top down or bottom up much easier.
