These turquoise swirls are #Melissa’s sediment plumes—fine carbonate sands lifted from the shallow shelf and pulled into spiraling eddies. Their sharp gradients show strong shear and mixing. Within days the pattern fades as particles settle and dilution breaks the structure.🌀🟢🔵

Hurrican Melissa had a central pressure of 892 millibars (about 88% of sea level) when it made landfall, which is incredible; the lower the pressure the stronger the air is drawn in and the stronger the winds.
