What is particularly sad, when DOGE is through with its trashing of governmental agencies, the current Republican budget proposal actually INCREASES the national debt. The ONLY time our annual budget has been balanced, it was done by a reasonable group of Democrats.

Good chance that if Trump rather than Lincoln had been our president at the start of the Civil War that not a shot would have been fired. He would have gone to Fort Sumter and signed a peace treaty in exchange for a steamboat loaded with cotton.
