Well done, DC! The District also offers the unusual option of a self-serve ceremony, without an officiant. Once the couple has the license, they can go to any District location and say what they feel is necessary to make it a marriage.

Along an otherwise ordinary outdoor passageway, a single limestone block held a rich collection of fossil leaf impressions! I delighted in sharing it with a family passing by and watching the young girl quickly find as many leaves as I’d noticed. 4/4

A few paintings stopped me in my tracks — Courbet’s grotto vortex, the spectres in the Manet streetscape, and the unsettling quality of the Cezanne, where each of the vessels is painted from a slightly different point of view, almost like a preview of the Cubists’ overlapping viewpoints. 3/4

I’ve been in love with Barbara Hepworth’s work since I was a teenager. (I’ve visited her studio in Cornwall and the Pier Art Gallery in Orkney.) But I’d never seen one of my favorites, “Figure for a Landscape”, from these vantage points until today. 2/4
