The new Shinobi game is really good. Having honed my playforming skills over the past month on Silksong I feel like I’m up for this challenge and I’m having a blast with it so far.

So… Lies of P is a very well crafted Souls clone. Kudos on that, I guess? As far as those kind of games go, they did good. But it’s also for some reason steampunk Pinocchio? Except the enemies are also “puppets”? I feel like this is trying too hard for no reason. Is Gepetto the final boss?

TMNT: Splintered Fate is way better than it has any right to be. Yes, it’s a blatant Hades rip-off. No, it’s not as good as Hades. But it’s fun. The controls are solid. The art style is great. The progression is deep. I dig it.

I waited more than a year to pick up Mortal Kombat 1, and only then when it had a solid bundle deal plus one of my kids showing interest in playing. Gotta say though, it’s probably the best MK game since the 2012 reboot. Hands down the best slate of guest fighters, too. Pitch perfect.

Really enjoying this new season of White Lotus. We have no idea what’s going to happen but it’s been an enjoyable, unsettling ride as always.

My controversial Assassin’s Creed opinion is that the in-game menus have always been bad. I can’t say exactly how, but they’ve always just kind of bothered me. Like they’re trying too hard.

Played Harmonies with the middle kid. I’ve seen this game described as “Cascadia meets Azul” and that’s not far off, although it isn’t exactly either of those games. It’s a very light, quick puzzle building almost solitaire experience with fantastic components. Enjoyed it a lot!

Brotato co-op update and new DLC dropping in two days. There’s my weekend planned out.

Path of Exile 2 is pretty dang good

I know this game has been out on Steam for awhile but I’m not a PC gamer. It just dropped on PS5 and man, oh man is this a fantastic game. It sheds the dead weight of the original and delivers a fast-paced, intense one-off journey with loads of roguelike goodness. Love this game!

Capcom really saved the best for last in this first year of Street Fighter 6 content. This is the best version of Akuma, by a wide margin. Visually, gameplay-wise, sound design, all of it. They really had me worried for a minute with this batch of fighters but this makes up for it.

2024 is shaping up to be a great year for console gamers who love roguelike/action RPG games.

First up is No Rest for the Wicked, from Moon Studios. This looks like an isometric action RPG with heavy Dark Souls influence on gameplay, which is a departure from the frantic button mashy standard.

Hey let’s talk about fighting game battle passes, or season passes, or whatever. I’m currently heavily invested in two fighting games - Street Fighter 6 and Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. Both games have season passes/battle passes. They are VERY different. Let’s break it down.

Dave the Diver landed on PS consoles this week and I have been loving it. It scratches all of my casual gaming itches - item collection, rogue-lite repetition, some light restaurant management… plus great characters and the 16-bit style cutscenes are a hoot! Loving this one!

Hi-Fi Rush recently came to PS5 as part of Microsoft’s new plan to port some of their older Xbox exclusives to Sony’s console. It sounded like a game in my wheelhouse (I dig rhythm and 3rd person action games) so I picked it up. And I like it! But it made me yearn for another game (thread).

The first issue of Tips & Tricks I had an article in was April 1998. I wrote a strategy guide for the PS1 game Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. This series has been around for more than 25 years now, with the latest title released in 2022!

Five player Thunder Road Vendetta is *chef’s kiss* so good

This might become a Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising account. The game is maybe the most fun I’ve had playing a fighting game since the early 90s

Spider-Man 2 on PS5 is incredible! Perfect story, perfect length (I work full time, only play on weekends, was able to finish the story and 100% it in a week). No complaints. Loved every moment of this game! Bring on some great DLC now!

Video game designers - “our game will take you 170 hours to beat” is not the draw some of you think it is.

I’m going to start posting pics and stories from my time spent as a fanzine editor and a writer for Tips & Tricks magazine. Maybe someone out there is interested in some of this stuff. No schedule, just whenever I have time.

My boys and I recently completed a Championship series in Heat: Pedal to the Metal. It’s hard to go back to playing this game with the basic no-frills decks now. The expansion modules are where this game SHINES! Love it.

I can’t believe I’m back doing a fresh run at Cyberpunk 2077 but here we are. The 2.0 update ahead of Phantom Liberty completely overhauls the skill trees and makes cyberware a lot cooler. Goodbye free time :)

These stickers for the Root meeples are a real glow up! Not that Root’s wooden forest folk weren’t cute to begin with, but these bring them to life with fantastic artwork (on both sides too!). Here’s the Etsy shop link for anyone who might be interested:
