speaking of star wars, there's a few books in the expanded universe where sith are kind of protagonists. the best one i thought was Palpatine, which is more about Darth Plagueis, and i think you're supposed to root for the guy.

yeah there's a lot of different possible responses. i agree that it's not right to assume people will all just let others suffer, we see that in emergency situations that common humans are a lot more helpful than the elites are. but still, one can't assume we're naturally good either. it depends.
