#weekendread: how has #ai changed the language/vocabulary used in research articles?
The appearance of large language models caused a drastic shift in the vocabulary of academic writing, according to an analysis in #ScienceAdvances of more than 15 million biomedical abstracts published from 2010 to 2024. scim.ag/3IhpoQF

This graph from @fschreyer.bsky.social and @pik-potsdam.bsky.social colleagues illustrates the dilemma nicely "LeastCost" path involved scaling up CCS faster than historical precedents. Avoiding fossil-CDR ("FosFree") means doing same for e-fuels.

“The best way to avoid being physically inactive is not join to a gym, but to begin with the radical act of walking. The good news is a well-designed city can give us all the regular physical activity we need, without access to expensive equipment and trainers. It’s all about the built environment.”

The #EU would be risking its climate leadership with a weak 2035 target, but appears to be heading that way.
It's made great progress on meeting its 2030 target, with emissions decreasing significantly
Plans to adopt strong new targets appear to be unravelling

Analysing the #energytransition in Germany with a focus on the role of the federal states: the study "Paths to a Climate-Neutral Energy System in Germany" is now available in English as well. Main findings:
- direct electrification is key
- renewables wind and solar needed in all states

🔓 Jürgens et al. @fraunhoferise.bsky.social model a pathway for Germany's energy transition to meet a 1.5°C compliant #carbonbudget 🇩🇪

➡️ Results show that a crisis response across the energy system + fundamental changes in energy policy & society are needed to stay within remaining carbon budget
Closing the ambition gap: Germany's energy transition in line with a 1.5°C carbon budget
