I'm not posting on bsky enough these days for it to be clear I was joking about the hell part. 😅

We cannot offer a meaningful salvation to those we are unwilling to know. We cannot offer a meaningful alternative to suffering we are unfamiliar with. We cannot offer liberation to those in need if we are unwilling to be liberated from the privileges that hold us hostage.

You might even call it "solid" advice 😏

Every time someone is like, "sorry to cancel last minute," I'm like: "no, no... I was glad to meet. And I'm also glad for the surprise grey space." 😂 It's my own version of radical acceptance.

Thanks for saying all this. It resonates deeply with Dr. Cone's assertion that the enslaved Hebrews were "God's people" precisely because they were oppressed. We cease to function as God's people when we are the oppressors. ⚪ Xtianity is the same old enslavement agenda baptized in Christ's name.

Truthfully, I think I just experienced it as permission to allow reality to happen.

It's going to be what it's going to be regardless; so the work is actually about self-regulation in its wake. That makes sense to me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I mean, I found that really helpful. You may remember I called you shortly after I left a multi-staff mid-size church for my current small church. This work is so much harder, and you advice rings true.

And we who bare God's name are called to name him according to their vision; for as long as we cling to security and self-sufficiency at the expense of our neighbors, our vision is clouded from seeing God's truth.

Those whom God allows to name him are the poor, disenfranchised, systematically disinherited, marginalized, used and abused.

Abraham could be argued as experiencing deep distress, too, and doesn't name God until the sacrifice of Isaac...

Those who most accurately (read: honoringly) name God are experiencing deep distress... AND do not have the material resources to alleviate their distress.
