In the sermon today, I shared a phrase I learned from a mentor:

"Don't should yourself."

I have received several communications expressing concern over my language in church.

Someone pray for the Lord to help me enunciate more gooder.

I must not transliterate. Transliteration is the mind-killer. Transliteration is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my transliteration. I will permit it to pass over me and through me...Where the transliteration has gone there will be nothing. Only Yeshua will remain.

This sentiment is reflected at one point in the book of Hebrews. I think David Bentley Hart mentions it in his "Apocalypse and Tradition." And, I was just reading St. Gregory Nazianzen on this recently as well:

100% authentic genuine pine.

(I did a thing. My first ever 50k.)
(Bonus thing, since a 50k is 5miles longer than a marathon: I did my first ever marathon.)

niche post, but... between off-and-on sickness the last couple weeks and a difficult to manage work schedule, next weekend's 50k is going to kick my butt (literally. My glutes, in particular, are going to be screaming.)

I'm counting on my consistency 1month ago to carry me through this thing. 😅😭

lol absolutely unhinged bot interactions.

Can someone who understands software/the internet explain to me how 'Koine' got targeted here? 😂

Ever wonder what ADHD is like?

Me, peering into the fridge and seeing 3 containers of mustard: "wow we sure have a lot of mustard!"

My spouse, pointing at the additional mustards in the pantry: "YOU keep buying them!"

"alternative Hedonism" you say? 😏

(This is a joke and I'm so sorry to post him here. 😭)

Lol I know this is such a straight guy joke and not that funny but I giggled when I found this 40 year old note in an old hymnal at our church:

Why look for the living among the dead?

His spirit is not found in the graves of this world, but with every person crushed under the weight of oppression and in every place where love reigns supreme.

Alleluia!

Remember: Jesus was killed by the state--an execution of power that was supposed to be finally sealed in the grave.

But the grave couldn't hold him down! And now every hall of power that would use death and defilement to maintain its power has experienced a *spiritual death and become like a grave.

The Gospel of Luke: meticulous and intentional in its details.

Bible commentators: "meh, this weirdly specific detail is unimportant."

I'm trying to spread the word about our church; I sometimes earnestly think it's the best-kept-secret of West MI. Neighborhood churches like ours meet critical needs for connection and resourcing for urban communities.

Would you share this and/or consider sharing end of year support? Thanks!!
