This has been planned for a while, but we have finally got around to add the "Citation Needed" template!
This will be used for any piece of trivia, that does not have a source, and is primarily spread through word of mouth.

In Western Build, a Pizza Shield power up was added into the game. It could be found in some secret rooms, and it would prevent the player from losing points after getting hit once.
These would stay in the game for a while, before getting cut entirely with the rework of the Secret Rooms.

Fangamer's "Pizza Tower for Nintendo Switch™ Collector's Edition" comes with a set of 10 art cards, that have every level's titlecard printed on both sides. However, one for Fun Farm is missing, which was replaced with the P-Rank screen. Mort was also edited out of CTOP's titlecard.

In April 2021 Build, for exactly one frame, one of Gerome's keys was the wrong color. This was fixed in the final release.

Initially, Pizzaface used a slightly different, more bright shade of yellow, along with extra shading used. This got carried over onto the Pizza Time Pizzaface animations, where the same shade of yellow is used. Everywhere else, Pizzaface uses a different, more common shade of yellow.

Introduced in LetsGoToSAGE v3, Ancient Cheese and Bloodsauce Dungeon featured falling debris, which would activate during Pizza Time and act as additional obstacles.
They were removed in SAGE 2019 Demo v13b.

Exclusively in Noise's Hardoween, the left trigger on the controller makes The Noise dab. The dab is analog, meaning that the player can control how the animation is played.
It is a reference to Yo! Noid II: Enter the Void, where Noid also had an analog dab animation.

Very briefly, Pizza Tower featured a Time Attack mode, which could be activated after collecting a clock at the start of the level. It would set the player's score at around 12,000 points and requires to finish the level while the score slowly decreases.

One of the original ideas for the 4th boss in the game was a single bee. The whole idea behind the fight was to get the Bee to touch the toxic gas from a Raid can 8 times.
The fight is still accessible via debug console and the "player_room boss_bee A" command

Update on this: Japanese translated names have been added by Pizza Tower Wiki user Supreveio. And with that, every level name has been translated! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this.

Fake Peppino's animations were slightly changed during the release version of the game. The arm shade was replaced with a simpler one under the shirt, there's less shine spots on the face, and the tongue was made a different color, which was originally cheesy yellow.

One of short-lived ideas for the game was a day/night cycle, where the background would change its colors. It is unknown if the way it was implemented in the video was meant to be the intended final result. It's still accessible in the files of the Desert build.

Weenie enemy, as confirmed by McPig on Tumblr, was based on Peter from Weenie Cop, one of the previous game concepts that was worked on.

Around 2021, McPig gave a funeral to the Pizzice enemy on one of his streams, as it wasn't going to be used. Later, however, McPig reused the behaviour for the Pizzice enemy for the new Snowman one, eventually reusing the sprites for Pizzice, giving it its current behaviour.

Pepper Pizza transformation initially had an entirely different effect. It would have been a power up, that would make the player run at mach 4 instantly for about 15 seconds. It was never actually used for a single level and was only showcased in the first Thing of the Week youtube video

There are actually quite a few notable differences between the original "YOU SUCK!" image, compared to the one used in the game. Firstly, rather than using the original one and then adding two more boil frames, it was redrawn entirely, with cleaner outlines.

The Steam page for the game showcases a fight with Pepperman, which actually depicts some pre-release footage. The bosses would always have 8 HP shown, with extra ones placed on top of them, which use a different color. This was likely scrapped as it would have spoiled the Phase 2.

At one point in development, the backgrounds for the TV were meant to reuse the level gate ones, before they were changed to solid color. In some other clips, the scrolling was much faster, making it more distracting. This was likely removed as to reduce clutter.

At one point in development, McPig has considered making Act 2 for each level, akin to Sonic games, where the second act would reuse gimmicks, with the level assets recolored and another song used. This, however, never went anywhere, and was left as an one-off idea.

The third Oh Shit! background was actually slightly different in the January video update. It featured a sausage, floating in the water, alongside colors being more saturated. The sausage was removed in the following build, however it was readded in the release version.

Did you know that Early Test Build level features a proper background? More often it's blocked off by the Peppino statues and pillars, which make it hard to see. This technically makes it the first background made for the game, that isn't made out of the tiles.
