People are this mad about it because that was a blow to a sensitive wound we’re all feeling - where the art we’re seeing can’t be trusted, where the voices we hear might not be human, where the stories we experience might come from somewhere entirely hollow.

It was a tipping point for a lot of us.

"this llm is basically indistinguishable from a human!" you say, as every word it gives you has to be a response to your input, is always sucking up to you, never pushes back on any idea you present, etc etc.

Do you think any real human behaves this way? Are you insane?

I also hate how people claim that these LLMs pass the turing test when they can't ever contact you first. I think a pretty basic normal human behavior is being able to initiate a conversation or come up with a follow-up thought without you having to "prompt" it. Humans don't need prompting
