Most people say Hi-Uni B is the closest, but I think the 2B is better, especially for drawing. Both are pretty close but not quiiiiite right. the 2B feels slightly more slippery on the paper than the 602. Palomino really made something special with the 602...

have you tried the mitsubishi hi-unis? I find they're the closest to BWs. not always easy to get tho, but sometimes you can get boxes cheaper than bw's

Box of half 602s, $24.

*grabs full-length 602, snaps in half*

Presto...🙄

Ah

“Palominos brand has been discontinued… concentrating completely on the Blackwing name, will sell Palominos as a nostalgia thing,… there will be no equivalent of Palominos 602s as a Blackwing pencil.”

Well, I should have read the news first instead of bothering people in BlueSky…

I haven't done any recently (pro work/life), but I am digging out of the small mountain of owned media, and I already stated that I will add a note when I am open again.

The place I go for mechanical leads has not changed in years; Kinokunya, or its satellite store, Maido.

Not only do they carry EU/US leads, but they also have Japanese ones ranging from 0.2 to 0.9 mm (I usually opt for 0.3 mm), as well as a wide variety of other Japanese art supplies.

Yes, it does seem I use a lot of them (Palominos). The short stubs will be put back in use with pencil extenders.

Typically $2 in the US, so not a significant increase.

Also, I hoarded them after leaving Warners, so there's no problem of running out of them just yet.

I also do art hoards just in case. I bought a ton of erasers for my ancient Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Electric Eraser eons ago, and just ran out of them on October 1st.

Luckily, modern refills for hand erasers (10mm wide, long type) fit perfectly.
