Instead of citing a secondary source, if you want people to read what it actually said, here is the actual Fairness Doctrine

Feasible or not, that would be a direct violation of 1A.

rule in a manner that does not meet the requirements of the Administrative Procedures Act. They can't regulate by guidance. Ironically, Vought is trying to get rid of all agency guidance.

Are you here to discuss or to insult?

Caitlin is a she and I am really surprised to see you call the Fairness Doctrine "old bad shit" because 99.9% of the posts on BSKY clamor for it to be reinstated. But the reason I said that is that this is not a recreation of the FD in any way, shape, or form. It is an extension of the equal time

Do you really believe that there will be enough Republican votes in the House to impeach and enough votes in the Senate to convict?
January 25, 2026 at 9:50 PM
And where would you go from there?

The Lake Michigan story has a big whole in it. Trump didn't buy that yacht until 1998 and as best I can tell, it was never in Lake Michigan. When he sold it, it became a floating casino in Gary, Indiana, overlooking Lake Michigan.

The story just blew up a week ago.

Eastern Airlines?

That isn't even Cliff notes. That is AI slop. The FCC under Reagan abolished the FD in a unanimous decision - 2 Republican commissioners and 2 Democratic commissioners.

Are you saying that you have a Fairness Doctrine in Canada? I have looked for something equivalent and have not found it. Can you provide a link?
January 25, 2026 at 9:32 PM
Yes I know that and that's why I was surprised that you referred to the Fairness Doctrine in your post.
January 25, 2026 at 9:29 PM
I did read it and it is primarily about the equal time rule. I am quite surprised that a Harvard-trained lawyer who specializes in 1A issues made reference to the Fairness Doctrine.

It blew up only a week ago.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the Fairness Doctrine. It is a different law that has been in effect continuously since 1934. Here is a 2022 fact sheet explaining it.

How would you modernize it, given the 1st amendment constraints?

never can apply to any medium besides broadcast.

Maybe read it before you continue?

The Fairness Doctrine never applied to news coverage. It applied only to editorial content. It required broadcast tv & radio stations to allocate some time to discussion of controversial issues of public concern and, in so doing, present differing points of view.

It never did and constitutionally

No. Who were good people at the start.

Except that there is no cause of action for defamation of a dead person.

Is it? How do you now that Roberts is in the files?

Bye, Lizzy.
